Prayer: A Petition for Mercy for National Leaders

Bible Text: "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority." - 1 Timothy 2:1-2.

Ruler of rulers, King of kings,  

I come before You with a heart full of reverence and humility, lifting up the leaders of nations around the world. Your Word in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 calls us to pray for all those in authority, and today I intercede on their behalf, asking for Your mercy to guide, bless, and empower them to lead with wisdom and integrity.  

Lord, You are the Sovereign God who sets up kings and removes them, the One who holds the hearts of leaders in Your hands. I pray for Your mercy to touch the lives of presidents, prime ministers, governors, and all who hold positions of power and influence. Grant them wisdom to make decisions that promote justice, peace, and the well-being of their people.  

Father, I ask for Your mercy to soften the hearts of leaders who are hardened by pride, greed, or selfish ambition. Replace their desires with a hunger for righteousness, a love for truth, and a compassion for the vulnerable. Surround them with advisors who seek Your will and who speak truth with courage and humility.  

Lord, I also pray for leaders who are facing immense pressure, criticism, or danger. Strengthen them in moments of weakness, protect them from harm, and give them the courage to stand firm in their convictions. Let Your peace rule in their hearts, even in the midst of turmoil and conflict.  

Thank You, Lord, for being a God who hears our prayers and who works through the lives of leaders to accomplish Your purposes. Thank You for the promise that when we seek You, You will guide the paths of nations. I trust in Your power to bring about change, even in the most challenging circumstances.  

Help me to be faithful in praying for leaders, to extend grace and understanding, and to trust in Your sovereign plan. May Your mercy and wisdom be evident in the lives of those who lead, bringing glory to Your name.  

In the mighty and sovereign name of Jesus, I pray,

God of All Creation,   I come before You with a heart seeking direction, knowing that my steps are uncertain without Your guidance.
